I did receive a free version of Elements but I doubt it's much newer.

And it continues to run just fine under Windows 7 despite some inane and inaccurate file size warnings.īut no, there is no newer free version of Photoshop.

The Adobe notice quoted by some members here, it was not displayed at the time. bat file so it works in the Windows environment vs having to go to the CMD line. Meanwhile I rename the files using an MS-DOS program called exiv2, in conjunction with a. Then again, I use a file manager program called "Powerdesk" which has been around & not updated since 2001, and it's still my favorite file manager program.

I just figure that, well, as old as that software is, sooner or later it's bound to be a ridiculous thing to continue using it. (Heck lately I've used Nikon Capture NX-D for my RAW processing & often-times that's the beginning & end of it.) Again my tendency is that since I do most of the "heavy lifting" in RAW software, and I don't do dramatic Photoshop but mainly "touch-ups" for the most part, I will likely just keep plugging along as is for now. Besides, as long as it's been and as many other versions have appeared since then, I feel no guilt over using it. I was told at the time that it was totally & legitimately free and I'm sticking with that story (ha ha). Again I lose track but I think I downloaded it some 5 years ago, possibly more, I know it's been a right good while. GIMP 2.10 will be a production release with these features.ĭuly noted.

GIMP is far superior to Photoshop CS2 in my opinion. Sometimes I do ALL of my processing in the RAW software. Heck Photoshop Elements would probably be enough except when I convert RAW files I save the "exports" as 16-bit TIFF format & Elements doesn't work with those. All I do in Photoshop is some (but typically not all) of the following: cloning or the "healing brush" for trash in the photo (or moles on a face etc), brightness-contrast, levels, a Velvia "actions" for landscapes, and maybe unsharp mask (once in a blue moon I may work with layers just a tad). Has Adobe made any other versions free since then? If not, oh well, I've basically done OK with Photoshop CS2 because most of the "heavy lifting" I do is RAW processing-either in Lightroom (I have 5.7 currently) or Nikon's free Capture NX-D software (ever since I replaced my submerged Sony A6000 with a Nikon D3300 last month). I put free in quotes because there is controversy over whether people should be using it without a license. Sometimes I do ALL of my processing in the RAW software

For the past 5 years or so (I lose count, it's been awhile) I've been using the legitimately free version of Photoshop CS2 ever since a poster told me a kazillion years ago, during a time I was using an even older version than that (CS original maybe?), that CS2 was legitimately free from Adobe's site anyway.
